Cool Stream Ventilation systems are an excellent ventilation solution for larger buildings and are typically only 25% of the installed cost and 10% of the running cost of a refrigeration based air conditioning system. They benefit also from low maintenance overheads. Some industries require more than natural or a powered ventilation system. The pharmaceutical and the food industries, for example, require greater control over internal ambient temperatures. For such buildings, air conditioning systems used in many offices and shops would not be effective in all but the smallest storage or production facilities. Many such buildings are too large for refrigerant cooling systems, not from a technical or engineering point of view, but in terms of cost.
Evaporative cooling is an efficient and effective alternative to conventional air conditioning. This is particularly so in storage or large open space facilities, where these buildings are simply too large for refrigerant air conditioning to be cost effective.
Cool Stream Ventilation involves drawing hot dry air across wetted media, which results in an exchange of energy and a significant reduction in the temperature of the air. The warmer the outside temperature, the more efficiently evaporative cooling works. Above 30°C, the air can cool down adiabatically by 10°C or more, resulting in very efficient cooling. Evaporative cooling is 4 to 7 times more economical than conventional systems with lower investment costs.
In addition, evaporative cooling involves supplying 100% fresh air and thereby maintains air quality. In effect, it's an enhancement of an input ventilation facility, which means that it can be used throughout spring and summer with the cooling function only being operated when conditions dictate. Heat is normally removed at high level via natural ventilators, providing a pleasant temperature at the working area.
Cool Stream Ventilation is well suited for retrofit into existing ventilation systems, including large spaces in which a pure ventilation system cannot ensure a comfortable internal working climate. Cool Stream Ventilation is well suited to industries such as food, plastics or metal, and for installation in restaurants, warehouses, and shopping centres, or leisure and exhibition centres.

Recent projects include Base Menswear at Bromley. This retail unit is situated within a shopping complex where there was no immediate access to the outside. The brief from the client was to provide a System offering both cooling and heating as well as introducing tempered fresh air.
We supplied and installed a Rheem Air Handler with Two Stage Cooling providing 55.00 kW's of Cooling/ Heating combined with 20% fresh air, all supplied into the shop via 800 mm spiral reducing ductwork connected to eight 750mm Circular Diffusers positioned throughout the store. The result means that Base Customers can shop all year round in comfort whatever the temperature.
